Dividend Increase Wal-Mart

Dividend increase Wal-Mart

At the 21st of February the board of Wal-Mart decided to increase the quarterly dividend from $ 0,50 to $ 0,51 per quarter. This means an increase of $ 0,04 per share per year which translates to a 2% increase. The dividend is paid on April the 3th 2017 to shareholders of record on March the 10th 2017. This is the 44th consecutive increase in the quarterly dividend.

The Pursuit

Since I have 19 shares this increase means that my yearly dividend for Wal-Mart Stores Inc is now $ 38,76. Up from $ 38,00 or a $ 0,76 increase in yearly dividends. After taxes I will receive $ 32,95 per year from the company.

This increase means Wal-Mart currently yields 2,83% and my yield on cost rises to 3,51%.

Conclusion

The increase is exactly as expected. As detailed in my post about the Wal-Mart year figures the company is going through a transformation. The company is heavily investing in staff and e-commerce. On the long term I’m confident this will yield nice results. For the short term this means minor dividend growth of 0,01 per quarter for a couple of years. I expect better growth in 1 or 2 years from now. I will keep monitoring the company. In the meantime I just keep collecting my dividends!

  1. We have the same amount of Walmart I plan to nibble here and there hopefully it comes back with a good increase soon. Good strong company for now.

    1. I believe in the new strategy of the company. I think e-commerce combined with brick & mortar stores is going to be the future. Not just e-commerce. And looking at the last quarter of the company it certainly seems like things are changing for the better.

      So nice company indeed!
